Ongoing Care For Your Animal Coats

Why Proper Jacket Care Matters

A clean, well-maintained animal jacket not only lasts longer but also protects your animals more effectively. Dirty or damaged jackets can lose their insulation properties and even harbor bacteria or moisture, which defeats their purpose.
By following these simple steps, you'll ensure that each jacket remains in top condition throughout the season and beyond.

The Care Checklist

Here are our Top Tips for maintaining longevity and maximising the benefits of your jacket.

  1. Make sure the jacket fits the animal correctly and covers the their body, from neck to tail. See our size guide for help.
  2. Ensure your coats are completely dry before fitting them with jackets.
  3. Adjust the straps weekly to accommodate for growth.
  4. Check to ensure no straps are rubbing that could create raw spots on the skin.
  5. Bedding for animals is still important. Be sure they have clean, dry, deep bedding in which they are able to nest.
  6. Remove any dried dirt, straw, or manure with a stiff brush before it gets ground into the fabric.
  7. In warm stretches, monitor their temperature to see if they are sweating under the jackets. If so, remove them during the day, as daytime sweating can cause night time chilling.
  8. Wash them when necessary as it not only improves the wellbeing of the animal but also greatly increases the life of the jacket.
  9. When not in use, store jackets in a clean, dry place away from rodents and moisture. Folding them neatly will help maintain their shape.

Bonus Tip: Have a Rotation System

If you have a larger herd, keeping a few spare jackets on hand can help rotate them during washes or wet weather, ensuring every animal stays warm and dry.
